Reflections

The Reflections Art Program is a National PTA event which has been bringing the arts to life for more than 10 million students since 1969. It strives to increase awareness & the importance of arts in education. The contest is nationwide, beginning at the school level & winning artists can advance through to council, district, state & national levels. Children from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate in the following areas:

  • Dance Choreography

  • Literature

  • Photography

  • Film Production

  • Music Composition

  • Visual Arts

  • Special Artist

Reflections encourages students of all ages to:

  • Unleash creative talents and be inspired

  • Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork

  • Experience the fun and joy of making art

  • Tap into critical-thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme

  • Receive positive recognition for their original works of art

This years theme is 'I WILL CHANGE THE WORLD BY…'. Some questions you can ask your child to help them with this theme are:

  • What is something that you feel is a problem in the world?

  • Where do you see the need for change? Is it something in your community, or school, or the environment ?

  • Who will be affected by this change? Is it your friends, family, your pets or animals or people of the world?

  • How can you leave the world a better place?

ART MASTERS

Art Masters introduces students to history and culture through this multidimensional art curriculum.

After learning about various artists, the students have an in-class activity led by our parent volunteers!

Best Foot Forward (BFF) Reading Program

Best Foot Forward (BFF) is a voluntary reading program sponsored by the PTA and available to all 1st thru 5th grade students.  Each student can check out one book daily from our library, read their book at home, and return the next day to have a volunteer ask them five or six questions to test their comprehension of the book.

This program is staffed entirely by volunteers.  We need volunteers who can work 1 to 1 ½ hrs. per week, conducting student interviews.

We gratefully accept donations of gently used books or any leftover goodie bag items all year.

To volunteer, or receive additional information, please call Bridget Furiga at 818-515-3275 or email her at gimsllc@verizon.net.
