His son, Andrew, painted people and landscapes with incredible detail and haunting moods. Piet Mondrian K-2 Parent Lesson

Dutch artist Piet Mondrian created over 100 abstract compositions balancing the elements of art: line, geometric, shape, color, and space.  His works were infused with a sense of movement and rhythm like the jazz music that inspired him. Scholars discover how Mondrian’s canvases of lines and space filled with squares and rectangles of primary colors have influenced everything from closet design to fashion. In turn, students will utilize his works as inspiration for their own paper collages for the classroom art activity.

Scholars will become acquainted with the works of 19th century  French artist Georges Seurat for this Art Masters lesson. Seurat had an eye of a scientist and a spirit of a Renaissance master. Through his studies of how the eye sees color, Seurat developed his own color theories and created a unique style of painting known as Pointillism. Students will learn how to divide colors into warm and cool families and use sandpaper and crayons to create their own colorful, dotted masterpieces.
